Dramatic video (above) from a fire and explosion last (Tuesday) night in Fairfax County, Virginia. The run was dispatched at 4:30 p.m. to the Build America Plaza at 3819 S. George Mason Drive in Bailey’s Crossroads. Here’s what Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department posted to social media:

Earlier this evening, #FCFRD responded to a utility emergency in the 3800 blk of South George Mason Drive in Baileys Crossroads. An explosion occurred while our firefighters were working that was captured on video. Thankfully, our firefighters are okay. FCFRD firefighters put their lives on the line everyday to protect the lives and property of Fairfax County. 🎥 courtesy of bystander.

Peggy Fox with Dominion Energy says that wires underground leading to the building had a fault issue, causing the fire which moved upward toward the building. When the firefighter opened the door, a rush of oxygen caused the explosion.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Mitchell Clark says investigators are conducting cause and origin reports and expect more information to be released in the coming days.
